The winner of each group qualifies for the finals.
All WCL playing conditions will apply EXCEPT: NRR will be the primary deciding factor for teams advancing, if tied on points. Head-to-head will NOT be considered a tie-breaker. We had issues with this last year.
Player qualification for playoffs: A player must have played at-least one of the games during the league phase to be eligible to play in the playoff game.
No player may play for more than one team. If a player plays for more than one team, the second team that he plays for will be disqualified from the competition and the player will be ineligible for the remainder of the tournament. In addition the DQ team will be fined $250.
We have left the Sunday April 6 noon time slot open in view of the T2 world cup final on this date which will finish close to 1 pm. This allows teams to watch the final without having to rush to the ground half-way during the game.
If teams allow (and wish) we can invite 4 other teams to take up the open 12 noon time-slot and play a knock out game. The two winning teams will then gain entry DIRECTLY into the semi-finals. There are positive and negative aspects of this. Positive, it allows more teams to participate (if they wish) but gives them 2 less games than other teams. On the other hand, it allows these teams an easier path to the playoffs. If we add them, there will be an ADDITIONAL playoff game for ALL teams that make the playoffs -- a semi-final game.
We will ONLY do this if ALL 8 playing teams agree. It won't be based on majority vote. But we are trying to accommodate more teams into the tournament, if possible. The four teams that will be invited (if approved by all 8 teams) are: Falcons, Sri Lankan, DC United, Columbia. If one or more of these teams do not wish to participate under these conditions, we will invite other teams. Obviously, the fee for these teams will be less since they are getting fewer games. These 4 teams will play a knock-out game on Sunday April 6th at Soccerplex and Fairfax.
